The Zuni Knife-wing god A-tchi-a la-to-pa is a celestial being, with a combined man-bird form.
This curious god is the hero of hundreds of folk tales, the tutelary deity of several Zuni societies. It is represented as having a human form, equipped with pinions fletched with flint knives, and a tail. Her dress consists of the conventional terraced bonnet, representing her abode among the clouds. His weapons are the great flint war knife, the bow of the heavens (the rainbow) and the lightning arrow. Its guardians or warriors are the great mountain lion. He was the first war god of the Zuni.
